This series consists of correspondence files relating to the provision of welfare services in the Northern Territory. Correspondence covers subjects such as child and general welfare, adoption procedures, housing, mental defectives, juvenile offenders, gaol visits, foster homes, Essington House, Palmerston House and Retta Dixon. The series includes a progress report and history of government housing in Alice Springs for Aboriginal families (file M12), a photograph of the Katherine Youth Club (file M68) and an organisaton chart for the Minister of Child Welfare (file M 69E). Some language used in these records (which reflects the language used at the time the records were created) may be offensive. This collection may contain references to Aboriginal people who have died, which may cause sadness and distress to their relatives. No offence has been intended by making these records available.
